Metro Tunnel

Melbourne Metro Rail Authority

Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) is the Victorian Government body responsible for delivery of the Metro Tunnel Project and Regional Rail Revival.

MMRA is an Administrative Office established in relation to the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

Metro Tunnel

Regional Rail Revival

MMRA is responsible for all aspects of the projects including planning and development of a project reference design, site investigations, stakeholder engagement, planning approvals and procurement, through to construction delivery and project commissioning.

By taking our busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city, the Metro Tunnel will free up space in the City Loop to run more trains in and out of the city. That means more trains, more often across Victoria, with a less crowded and more reliable train network.

The Regional Rail Revival will improve transport connections between regional centres and to Melbourne. It will deliver more services and better reliability to keep Victoria’s regional economies and population moving, with improved stations, tracks and signalling.

MMRA has assembled a skilled team of highly experienced professionals from across the public and private sectors to ensure the objectives of both projects are achieved for the Victorian community.

Delivering projects of the scale and complexity of the Metro Tunnel and the Ballarat Line Upgrade requires a blend of public sector and private sector experience and MMRA is utilising both employees and contractors, with support from external expert advisors.

MMRA CEO Evan Tattersall

Evan Tattersall has more than 30 years' experience in construction, working across a number of sectors including transport and building. Evan has worked on a number of major projects including the Craigieburn Rail Extension project, the Multipurpose Venue Sports Stadium (Hisense Arena), Western Ring  Road and the Fulham Correctional Centre. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Evan worked on the Regional Rail Link project, directing the project works in the inner city from Southern Cross to Footscray.

MMRA is committed to growing our team to meet the evolving challenges and demands of these major infrastructure projects. View the project jobs section for more information.
