Traffic changes on Kings Way

Ahead of major construction for the Metro Tunnel Project, changes to the road, tram and bicycle networks of Kings Way are required to keep Melbourne moving during construction.

As the major arterial route in the precinct, Kings Way has been identified as the primary diversion route during construction of the new Anzac Station. To ensure Kings Way can cater for the predicted increase in traffic, it is essential that changes are made to the road to improve the efficiency of the network.

A number of intersections along Kings Way will be upgraded to improve the traffic flow, efficiency and the safety of the network for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

Commencing early January 2018, works will largely be undertaken during off-peak traffic periods, concurrently, or be staged to occur at variable times to minimise traffic disruptions. There may be periods of medium level noise with construction and activities, all managed in accordance with Metro Tunnel Project Environmental Performance Requirements (EPRs) (PDF, 1.2 MB).

Advance notification for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists traffic conditions and detours will be provided using signage and traffic management.
