Posted: 19 Feb 2019
The names of the four TBM’s set to build the Metro Tunnel have been revealed.
Decided by popular vote, the selected names will honour crucial female figures in Australian history.
The first TBM, Joan will be named after Joan Kirner, Victoria’s first female premier and a staunch advocate of gender equality.
The second will be named after legendary cricketer and captain of both Australia’s national team and the Victorian Spirit, Meg Lanning
The third will be named after Alice Appleford, a medical hero in both World Wars and Australia’s most decorated woman.
Finally, the fourth TBM will be named after Millie Peacock, political pioneer and the first woman elected to the Parliament of Victoria.
Each of the TBM’s will be assembled and deployed throughout 2019, creating a network of tunnels that will benefit Melbournians for years to come.
