The Metro Tunnel’s twin rail tunnels are now halfway to completion, with the state’s biggest ever public transport project forging ahead in recent weeks. The city-shaping Metro Tunnel train line will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south-east, with High Capacity Metro Trains and five new underground stations.
In recent days, the project has achieved three significant milestones with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Millie breaking into the eastern entrance in South Yarra, and TBM Meg breaking through the Parkville Station box. Tunnelling works on the Metro Tunnel have now hit the halfway mark, with TBMs having installed more than 30,000 individual concrete segments.
Join us for a Facebook live Q&A on Tuesday 29 September at 4pm as we take a deep dive into these breakthroughs, construction plans and tunnelling. We’ll be chatting with our Tunnels & Stations Deputy Director Paul Thomas, who will answer live questions from the audience. Don't forget to share this event with friends and family who would enjoy learning more about the Metro Tunnel Project.
