Metro Tunnel

Delays expected during Autumn construction blitz

Victoria is currently in a transport construction boom with 41 major road and rail projects being built. During April, major infrastructure upgrades continue in preparation for the Metro Tunnel, which will untangle the City Loop to run more trains across Melbourne. These works will prepare our network for bigger, better trains and deliver improvements for passengers across Victoria.

Timed to coincide with the April holiday period to cause the least impact on people’s travel, construction works will continue across the metropolitan and regional train networks to build the Metro Tunnel, remove dangerous level crossings and upgrade regional lines.

Before travelling, plan ahead and allow more time for your journey. We advise you to avoid the peak if you can and consider alternatives where possible. Expect your normal services to be busier than usual during this time. There will be more people using roads or different public transport lines if their usual journey is disrupted.

Thanks for your patience during these works.
