The Metro Tunnel Creative Program has selected Melbourne artist Emma Coulter to transform the City Square acoustic shed with her trademark colourful artwork.
“My work is an offering to the people and streetscape of Melbourne, post-COVID-19 lockdowns," Emma says.
"This work offers a gesture of resilience, and for this space to be once again a celebrated community place.”
Emma successfully conducted test painting on the shed facade late last year. Artists from Melbourne-based Juddy Roller Studio are now installing Emma's artwork on the shed, with the final artwork expected to be completed in February.
Titled spatial deconstruction #23 (resilience), the work follows other site-specific installations created in New York, Germany, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Bendigo and Byron Bay. Emma lives in Melbourne and recently completed her Masters at VCA. spatial deconstruction #23 (resilience) will be her first large-scale public work in Melbourne and the largest work she has undertaken to date.
