TBM Alice breaks through at South Yarra

Posted: 06 Oct 2020

The large, round cutterhead of TBM Alice emerges out of the Metro Tunnel at South Yarra with muddy water flowing beneath.

The twin tunnels between the future Anzac Station and South Yarra have been completed, with the tunnel boring machine named Alice successfully completing her journey from the Domain precinct.

Alice broke through at the Metro Tunnel's eastern entrance on Saturday morning, just two weeks after TBM Millie completed a parallel 1.7km journey from the new Anzac Station site.

TBMs Alice and Millie will soon be transported back to the Anzac Station site, where they will be relaunched to build the tunnels into the CBD.

Our two other TBMs, Joan and Meg, also recently completed their journeys from North Melbourne to the Parkville Station site. They will be relaunched soon from Parkville to build the tunnels to the new State Library Station.

Follow the progress on our TBM Tracker or learn more about our tunnel boring machines.
