Temporary deck installed at Parkville
Posted: 17 Jun 2019
A key construction milestone has been reached at Parkville with the installation of a temporary deck that will help make way for the excavation of 250,000 cubic metres of rock and soil.
Once the excavation reaches around 60 per cent complete it will be too deep for trucks to enter and three gantry cranes spanning the site will be used to lower equipment and buckets through access holes in the deck to collect the excavated material.
The cranes will then place the rock and soil into the back of trucks inside two acoustic enclosures at surface level that are specially designed to contain noise and dust.
Excavation will continue until the end of 2019, after which work will begin on constructing the internal structures and fit-out of the station.
