Traffic changes in the CBD

Posted: 20 May 2020

As Metro Tunnel excavation works ramp up around the site of the new Town Hall Station, long term traffic and pedestrian changes will be in place on Flinders Street from Wednesday 3 June.

Vehicles travelling on St Kilda Road towards the CBD will no longer be able to turn left into Flinders Street, with access to the west of the CBD via Kings Way, Southbank Boulevard and Russell Street.

The pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square will also be temporarily closed for up to 20 months. As of Wednesday 27 May, pedestrians will be able to cross Flinders Street into Federation square via the new pedestrian crossing near Hosier Lane.

These changes will improve safety at one of Melbourne’s busiest intersections for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and tram users as more large trucks enter and exit the Federation Square acoustic shed.
