Our four tunnel boring machines have been engineered in Germany and built in China. Two TBMs (Joan and Meg) have arrived, with two more to come.
We'll be updating this map regularly to give you updates on this journey. Positions are approximate and indicative only.
What happens once they arrive?
After reaching port, our TBM's are lifted piece by piece from the ship and are transported overnight through the CBD.
The parts are then lowered into the TBM shafts at the North Melbourne and Anzac station sites, where they're assembled and begin tunneling toward their destination.
Upon reaching their destinations in Kensington and South Yarra, they are dismantled and trucked back to their starting points.
Finally, the TBMs will be relaunched toward the CBD to complete their journeys.
