Construction on the Mernda line
Before High Capacity Signalling is rolled out on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines and in the Metro Tunnel, the new technology will be put through months of on-site testing and validation.
That testing site is on a 4.5km length of track on the Mernda line between Epping and South Morang stations. Specially equipped trains are scheduled to be on track for testing in the second half of 2020.

Between Epping and South Morang stations
Testing of new trackside equipment and signalling technology will occur along the Mernda line between Epping and South Morang stations during December 2019.
These works will occur:
The shared user path running alongside the rail line between Epping and South Morang stations will be closed to the public during these works.
Buses will replace trains on sections of the Mernda line during these works and for Level Crossing Removal Project works. Visit the Public Transport Victoria website for details.
Signage and traffic management will be in place to safely detour cyclists and pedestrians around the shared user path closures.
Use of portable petrol powered light towers will be required. Where possible they will be positioned to face away from residential properties.
