TimingWhere What's happening

19-21 January

Sunshine station

Geotechnical testing involving a drill rig to investigate the ground conditions will take place from 9pm, Saturday 19 January to 4am, Monday 21 January.

To undertake these works safely, they need to be performed when trains are not operating. Works will be undertaken 24 hours during this period. The works are expected to generate periods of medium level noise.

Construction vehicles will be accessing the rail corridor next to Derby Road.

So the 24 hour works can take place safely, buses will replace trains from 9pm, Saturday 19 January until the first service Monday 21 January on the following lines:

  • Sunbury line: between North Melbourne and Sunshine
  • Werribee and Williamstown lines: between North Melbourne, Newport and Williamstown.

For more information, see the Sunshine station works notification (PDF, 797.3 KB).

From 19 January 2019

Footscray

To facilitate safe access into the rail corridor for specialised vehicles, a temporary rail access site will be constructed on a vacant block of land at Leunig Place, Footscray.

Accessing the rail corridor from Leunig Place allows the project team to access the Sunbury line without impacting other metropolitan, regional and freight services. This access site will be used throughout the project to deliver materials and machinery into the rail corridor so we can do work when trains aren’t operating.

Site preparation works will take place from 7pm, Saturday 19 January to 4am, Monday 21 January. This will include placing crushed rock and ballast to create an access ramp (rail corridor side). Due to the proximity of works to the rail corridor, work needs to be undertaken when trains are not running.

Site clearing and construction will take place from 1 February to 23 February. This work includes:

  • Installation of temporary fencing around the perimeter of the vacant land at 1A Leunig Place
  • Preparation works for construction of a temporary rail crossover (an asphalted section of rail) involving a digger to clear out excess ballast, compacting soil and machinery laying asphalt
  • Removal of one peppercorn tree. Some trimming of nearby trees may also be required.

Mid-January 2019

Footscray and West Footscray

Works are required in the rail corridor between Footscray and Tottenham stations to identify the location of underground services and prepare the area to build a new platform and track at West Footscray station:

  • To ensure the safety of passengers and our workers, these activities can only be performed safely when trains are not operating
  • The works are expected to generate periods of medium to high level noise during NDD activities. All other activities are expected to generate low levels of noise
  • The works are expected to generate low levels of vibration
  • Use of light towers will be required. We will position lights so they face away from residential properties, where possible
  • Construction vehicles will be accessing the rail corridor via Cross Street, West Footscray (opposite Whitten Oval)
  • To minimise disruption to the local community and rail users, important Metro Trains Melbourne maintenance works will also be carried out at this time.

For more information, see the January out of hours notification (PDF, 1.6 MB).

26 November to late December 2018

Tottenham Station car park

A temporary car park will be constructed adjacent to the Tottenham station car park on Rupert Street to provide up to 40 car parking spaces while works are underway at West Footscray station.

  • The works are expected to generate periods of medium level noise during tree removal, trimming and car park construction. All other activities are expected to generate low levels of noise.
  • The works are expected to generate periods of medium level vibration during compacting works. All other activities are expected to general low levels of vibration
  • A temporary footpath closure will be in place along a section of Rupert Street for three days between 3 December and 14 December to connect drainage to the existing storm
    water drain
  • Traffic management will be in place to assist with vehicle and pedestrian movements.

Early 2019

West Footscray Station
