Metro Tunnel

Real time traffic sign installation

Improvements to the road, tram and bicycle networks are required to keep Melbourne moving during construction of the Metro Tunnel.

Together with existing VicRoads initiatives, the Metro Tunnel Project is delivering a program of improvements to enhance the resilience and capacity of Melbourne’s transport network and help off-set construction impacts.

As part of this program, 20 real-time traffic signs will be installed on main roads at strategic locations around Melbourne.

The signs will help optimise the efficiency and safety of the road network by providing advice to motorists about traffic conditions – such as travel times, congestion, and disruptions – to help them make better informed decisions about their travel.

Final works are required on Park Street, South Melbourne to install nine new tram poles for the new Wells Street tram stop (Stop 119).

From 5 November to 13 December, tram poles and overhead wires will be installed.

During these works, the south side of Park Street will be closed between 53 Park Street and St Kilda Road.

Palmerston Crescent will remain open for south-bound traffic crossing from Wells Street. Access to the Hallmark Apartments will be maintained at all times through traffic management.

These changes will only occur overnight and detour routes will be in place.
