Building the massive 9km twin rail tunnels and five new underground stations will cause some unavoidable transport disruptions.

|9 to 12 August||Mernda|
Buses will replace trains from 9pm until the last train service on the Mernda Line between Clifton Hill and Mernda from Monday 9 August to Thursday 12 August.
|16 to 19 August||Mernda|
Buses will replace trains from 9pm until the last train service on the Mernda Line between Clifton Hill and Mernda from Monday 16 August to Thursday 19 August.
|16 to 19 August||Cranbourne and Pakenham|
Buses replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Westall from 9.20pm Monday 16 August to last service Thursday 19 August.
|23 to 24 August||Mernda|
Buses will replace trains from 9pm until the last train service on the Mernda Line between Clifton Hill and Mernda from Monday 23 August to Tuesday 24 August.
|23 to 26 August||Cranbourne and Pakenham|
Buses replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Westall from 9.20pm Monday 23 August to last service Thursday 26 August.

Buses will replace trains from 9pm until the last train service on the Mernda Line between Epping and Mernda from Wednesday 25 August to Thursday 26 August.
|28 to 29 August||Cranbourne, Pakenham and Frankston|
Buses replace trains on the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Frankston lines from first service Saturday 28 August to last service Sunday 29 August.
|30 August to 2 September||Mernda|
Buses will replace trains from 9pm until the last train service on the Mernda Line between Epping and Mernda from Monday 30 August to Thursday 2 September.

|19 to 30 July|
A temporary lane closure on Normanby Road is required for relocatable equipment building preparation works on Monday 19 to Friday 30 July, 7am to 6pm. Traffic management will be in place along Normanby Road to facilitate local traffic.

Elizabeth and Swanston streets will be closed to motorists between 10pm to 5am for up to five nights in late July to undertake sewer relining works.

|Western tunnel entrance, Kensington|
Closed to motorists, with access restricted to residents of Childers and Tennyson streets, construction vehicles, and over-height vehicles for the Lloyd Street Business Estate.
|Arden Station, North Melbourne|
From late January until late 2023
Laurens Street will be realigned to support service investigations and relocations, and construction of the Arden Station entrance. This involves the narrowing of traffic and bicycle lanes and closure of sections of footpath and on street parking.

Elizabeth Street/Royal Parade
The Elizabeth Street/Royal Parade northbound service lane will close from Haymarket Roundabout to just north of The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Vehicles travelling northbound from Haymarket Roundabout will be directed into the Elizabeth Street/Royal Parade northbound centre lane.
There will be minor lane closures on Haymarket Roundabout and Peel Street to assist with traffic flow for northbound traffic.
From February 2020
Grattan Street (west)
Closed between Flemington Road and Elizabeth Street/Royal Parade.
Grattan Street (east)
Closed between Royal Parade/Elizabeth Street and Leicester Street for up to five years.

From February 2020
Franklin Street West between Elizabeth and Swanston streets is open to two-way traffic but reduces to one lane width when approaching Swanston Street. Consider blind spot when approaching Swanston Street.
Franklin Street East to remain closed until 2024.
From January 2017
Closed to road users between Swanston and Stewart streets. Pedestrian access maintained.

The left-hand turn for traffic travelling northbound on St Kilda Road into Flinders Street is closed.
The Flinders Street pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square temporarily closed from 3 June 2020.
Flinders Street closed eastbound between Swanston and Elizabeth streets for up to three years.

Reduced to one traffic lane in each direction between Dorcas Street and Toorak Road west
Closed between St Kilda Road and the western edge of Edmund Herring Oval.

Closed during construction of the eastern tunnel entrance.
