Childers Street, Kensington

Long term closure - until 2025

Childers Street is closed to motorists, with access restricted to residents of Childers and Tennyson streets, construction vehicles, and over-height vehicles for the Lloyd Street Business Estate.

Access to businesses and residential buildings will be maintained at all times, and traffic management will be in place as needed to safely guide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists around work areas.

Childers Street Closure

Motorists

Access to Childers Street is restricted to residents of Childers and Tennyson streets, construction vehicles, and over-height vehicles for the Lloyd Street Business Estate. Traffic management will be in place to guide these motorists through works.

Long-term temporary car parking has been established at the corner of Hobsons and Kensington Roads to replace the car parking removed from Childers Street.

At various times a short-term detour will be in place for over-height vehicles along Derby and Tennyson streets. During these times, there will be reduced speed limits, school crossing supervision, and traffic controllers along the detour to ensure the safety of pedestrians, residents, cyclists, and other road users.

Cyclists

The bike path on the southern side of Childers Street is closed, and cyclists are advised to detour via Kensington Road and Altona Street (see above map). Signage is in place to guide cyclists.

Pedestrians

The footpath on the southern side of Childers Street is closed. Pedestrians have continued access to Childers Street and South Kensington Station via the northern pathway along JJ Holland Park.

At various times a short-term detour will be in place for over-height vehicles along Derby and Tennyson streets. During these times, there will be reduced speed limits, school crossing supervision, and traffic controllers along the detour to ensure the safety of pedestrians, residents, cyclists, and other road users.

Trains

South Kensington Station will remain open and operational throughout construction. However, there may be temporary closures at various times. Advanced notification will be provided of any closures or train replacement bus services.
