Childers Street closure - until December 2021

Childers Street is currently closed to traffic between Bill Vanina Pavilion and Ormond Street, until 17 December 2021. A detour is in place along Derby and Tennyson streets for over-height vehicles making deliveries to the Lloyd Street Business Estate (LSBE) and for a small number of Childers Street residents.

Access to businesses and residential buildings will be maintained at all times, and traffic management will be in place as needed to safely guide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists around work areas.

There may be short-term closures and traffic management arrangements required beyond 17 December 2021 until the project’s completion in 2025.

Motorists

Childers Street is currently closed between Bill Vanina Pavilion and Ormond Street, until 17 December 2021. A detour is in place along Derby and Tennyson streets for over-height vehicles making deliveries to the Lloyd Street Business Estate (LSBE) and for a small number of Childers Street residents.

During this closure there will be reduced speed limits, school crossing supervision and traffic controllers along the detour to ensure the safety of pedestrians, residents, cyclists and other road users.

Cyclists

The bike path on the southern side of Childers Street is closed. Cyclists are advised to detour via Kensington Road and Altona Street. Signage is in place to guide cyclists.

Pedestrians

The footpath on the southern side of Childers Street is partially open. Pedestrians have continued access to Childers Street and South Kensington Station via the northern pathway along JJ Holland Park.

Trains

South Kensington Station will remain open and operational throughout construction. However, there may be temporary closures at various times. Advanced notification will be provided of any closures or train replacement bus services.
