Long term traffic changes - from June 2020
As Metro Tunnel works continue to build the new Town Hall Station, there will be traffic and pedestrian changes to improve safety around the sites.
From Wednesday 3 June, vehicles travelling northbound on St Kilda Road towards the CBD will no longer be able to turn left into Flinders Street.
The Flinders Street pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square will also be temporarily closed from Wednesday 3 June for up to 20 months.
The crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square and the footpath on the south eastern side of St Kilda Road in front of the Federation Square acoustic shed will be closed.
As of Wednesday 27 May, pedestrians will be able to use the new signalised crossing near Hosier Lane to cross Flinders Street into Federation Square.
The kerb outside Young & Jackson Hotel has been extended to allow for more space for pedestrians.
Wayfinding will be in place to guide pedestrians around the intersection, to Flinders Street Station and Federation Square.
The left turn for traffic travelling northbound on St Kilda Road into Flinders Street will be closed.
Vehicles can access the west of the CBD by using Kings Way, Southbank Boulevard and Russell Street.
