Short term traffic changes
Until Saturday 31 October 2020, the eastbound lane on La Trobe Street will be closed between Elizabeth and Swanston streets from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Fridays, and from 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Motorists and Cyclists
There will be no through access for motorists or cyclists to Swanston Street travelling eastbound during these closures (refer to map for detour).
Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.
Long term traffic changes
The eastbound lanes on La Trobe Street will be reduced to one between Elizabeth and Swanston Street for vehicles for up to three years, with the northern footpath closed for pedestrians during this time.
Access to businesses and residential buildings will be maintained at all times. Traffic management will be in place to safely guide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists around work areas.
During the closures, underground service relocation works will take place to construct the underground pedestrian connection between Melbourne Central Station and the future State Library Station.
Pedestrians can access the La Trobe Street tram stop via Swanston Street, and Melbourne Central via the underground passageway (by lifts or stairs).
